Is Photomath cheating?

Photomath is cheating when a child photographs the problem and copies the solution as their own work. The app is built to produce that solution, so it is a weak first stop for homework.
Is Photomath safe for kids? The privacy policy we read does not state a numbered minimum age, and it does not present the app as a little-kid product. It still solves the problem. The longer note is is Photomath safe for kids?
What to do at the kitchen table
- Ask what the teacher allowed. If the assignment says no calculators or no apps, that is the rule.
- Have the child try the problem first. The family AI rules printable uses ten minutes as the first try.
- Keep the phone in a parent’s hand. Talk through the steps the app already shows, then have the child redo a similar problem on paper with the app closed.
- For practice that does not hand over the answer, use Zearn or the free Khan Academy exercises. Both are marked “teaches” in this directory.
