Is Photomath safe for kids? A parent's guide

Reviewed 2026-10-15 from public pages already cited in this directory. If a minimum age, an ad claim, or a data claim was not on those pages, this note says to check the app's terms.

Photomath scans a math problem and shows a solution with steps. Basic explanations are free. Plus is an optional subscription. Dollar prices for Plus were not on the help page we read.

Minimum age and account rules

The privacy policy we read says a registered account can include an email, a screen name, and an age if the person is old enough to register. It does not state a numbered minimum age, and it does not contain a clear COPPA children’s section. The app is not presented as a little-kid product. Check the app's terms for a minimum age.

Data and ads

Those account fields are the data points named in the privacy policy we reviewed. Whether Photomath shows ads was not in that text. Check the app's terms.

Teaches or gives answers

Photomath’s Google Play listing says it breaks a problem into steps so a learner sees the why. The app still produces the solution. In this directory that is “gives answers.” Word problems and elementary arithmetic are supported, which is why young grades appear on the tool page. It is still a rough fit for early grades if the goal is learning.

Parent verdict

Use it with your child, after they have tried the problem. Do not hand a young child the camera as the first stop.

  • Sit with them and talk through the steps the app already shows.
  • Check the app's terms before you create an account for anyone under 13. A numbered age was not in the privacy text we read.
  • Plus prices in dollars were not on the Plus overview. Confirm the store before you pay.

The full directory note is on the tool page. Age cutoffs for more apps are in is my kid old enough? The teaches-versus-answers labels are explained in apps that teach vs. give answers.
