Is Snapchat My AI safe for homework?
Reviewed 2026-10-19 from public pages already cited in this directory. If a minimum age, an ad claim, or a data claim was not on those pages, this note says to check the app's terms.
Snapchat My AI is not a safe homework tool for an elementary child. Snap’s terms say the services, which include My AI, are not for anyone under 13, and My AI is a general chatbot Snap says can be incorrect or misleading.
My AI is not a tool page in this directory. We did not paste a homework problem into it.
Minimum age and account rules
Snap’s terms of service say you must be 13, or older where you live, and that the services are not directed to children under that age. The terms name My AI as one of those services. Snap says that if it knows an account is under the minimum age, it will stop the service and lock or delete the account. The help center repeats that the minimum age to have an account is 13, with some regional differences, and that some features require you to be older.
What parents of teens can see
Snap’s My AI privacy page says a parent or guardian of someone under 18 may use Family Center to see whether the teen chatted with My AI, and to turn My AI on or off. Trusted adults cannot see the content of those chats. The disable steps say that when the setting is on, My AI will not store or process the teen’s queries or reply. Family Center is for parents 18 and older and teens 13–17. Snap says it is rolling out by country and may not be available yet.
Data and ads
The same My AI page says Snap keeps what you send and receive until you delete it in the app or delete the account. It says not to share confidential information, because My AI will use it. If location sharing is on, Snap says it uses that location to personalize the experience, including ads. The terms also say Snap shows ads and recommends content based on interests.
Teaches, or gives the answer?
My AI is a chatbot you can message, including inside other conversations. Snap says generative AI may be biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading, and that you should not rely on its advice. That is not a lesson app, and it is not a reviewed homework tutor. A child who pastes an assignment can get a reply that is wrong.
A parent’s read
- Do not create a Snapchat account for a child under 13.
- For a teen who already has an account, use Family Center to turn My AI off if you do not want it used on homework. You still will not be able to read the chats.
- For practice that asks the child to do the work, use the grade lists and the family AI rules printable. Camera solvers are a separate problem, covered in is Photomath cheating?
