Free AI tutor for kids
Reviewed 2026-10-19 from the same public pages as the directory. If a tool page says a price or a privacy claim is unverified, this guide does not fill it in.
Two AI tutors in this directory have a verified free tier: CK-12 Flexi and IQnition’s $0 plan. A page that says “free AI tutor for kids, no credit card” is only partly something we can check.
Neither free-plan page we read said a credit card was required, and neither said the words “no credit card.” We did not create an account, so a card field on the signup form is unverified. Khanmigo is not on this list. It is $4 a month or $44 a year.
Verified free AI tutor tiers
- CK-12 Flexi: the help center says CK-12 is free for students, teachers, parents, and schools, and that a free account includes AI tools. The Play listing says there are no ads and no in-app purchases. The student-tutor page we read called out math grades 6, 7, and 8. Younger than 6th grade was not established. The same app can photograph a problem and return a solution, so it is filed as mixed, not as a tutor that only asks questions. A children’s privacy notice for Flexi chats was not reviewed.
- IQnition: the pricing page lists a Free plan at $0, with 3 tutor sessions a day, 5 quizzes a week, and 1 learner. The company says grades 3–12. This directory uses grades 3–8. The pricing page puts the parent dashboard on Family Lite and Family Pro, not on the Free line. The Student plan is described as typically for a learner 13 or older. Paid plans are $9.99, $22.99, and $39.99 a month, with a 7-day trial, and billing runs through Stripe, the App Store, or Google Play. Whether the free plan asks for a card was not stated.
Free practice that is not an AI tutor
These have a verified free plan and ask the child to do the work. They are not chat tutors. They are the honest option when the search was “no credit card” and the child is younger than the tutors above.
- Khan Academy lessons stay free. The AI tutor is the paid Khanmigo plan.
- Khan Academy Kids is free for ages 2–8. Store listings say no ads and no subscriptions.
- Zearn says individual accounts and the K–8 math lessons are free.
- Duolingo ABC says the reading app is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. Store listings disagree on 2nd grade.
- Boddle says the math questions stay free for kindergarten through 6th. Premium is optional. It is a game, not a conversation.
- NoRedInk says signup is free for parents and students, grades 3–12.
- Quill says the writing activities are free. The live site showed 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 8th grade.
Ello is free to start, and a paid upgrade exists. The current premium price was not published, so it is not listed as a verified free plan. More free Khan Academy-shaped options are in Khanmigo free alternatives for kids. The one-page house rules are the family AI rules printable.
