Wyzant
A marketplace of human tutors. Not an AI homework app.
Wyzant lets a parent search independent tutors and book online or in-person lessons. Tutors set their own hourly rates and teach the subjects on their profiles, from elementary skills through adult test prep. You pay after the lesson. It is not software that solves a problem.
Best for
A family that wants a person, will read the tutor’s profile, and will stay nearby for a younger child. It is not a kids-only product.

Pricing
Partly verified
There is no single Wyzant price. You pay the hourly rate on the tutor’s profile after the lesson, plus a 9% service fee and any tax. Searching is free. An optional background check is $15.99. Wyzant’s blog says average rates are often between $35 and $60 an hour, and also says families may pay $35 to $100 an hour depending on the subject. Those are the company’s ranges, not a quote. The Good Fit Guarantee covers the first hour with a new tutor.
Teaches, or gives the answer?
A tutor can explain a skill or can walk a child through an assignment. Wyzant does not require a hint-only method. What happens in the lesson depends on the person you hire.
Kid safety and privacy
Partly verified
Wyzant reviews a tutor’s application and qualifications before listing them. It does not require a background check to be listed. A parent can pay $15.99 to request one, and can filter for tutors who already have one. The company says the check is a database search, is not foolproof, and does not cover every record. Tutors are independent.
What we could not verify
- Tutor search includes a student’s level, but the help page we read did not list the grade names in that filter.
- Most of the catalog is not limited to K–8. High school and adult subjects are on the same site.
- The blog’s hourly ranges do not match each other. The profile rate is the price.
- Cancellation fees are set by the tutor. Read that policy before booking.
